OxWell: Interactive tool for exploring youth mental health survey data

OxWell

The OxWell Student Survey is a large-scale, cross-sectional survey of school pupils, run by the University of Oxford’s Department of Psychiatry since 2019. It aims to provide a detailed snapshot of young people’s mental health and well-being, helping schools and local authorities make informed, data-driven decisions. In 2025, the survey reached nearly 30,000 students across 49 schools.

In 2025, OxRSE joined the OxWell team to design and develop a new interactive data platform. This platform provides schools and local education authorities with secure, direct access to anonymised data from their region. The dashboard enables users to explore student responses across a range of topics - such as Mental Health Support, Risky Behaviours, and General Health & Wellbeing - and to compare their region’s data against other participating areas.

Key features include flexible data filtering by categories such as age group, ethnicity, students in care, and special educational needs, allowing stakeholders to identify trends and focus on specific groups of interest. The platform is designed to support evidence-based action and facilitate meaningful dialogue around student well-being at the local and regional level.
