OpenBES

OpenBES: Simulate and monitor building energy requirements and usage.

OpenBES

OpenBES (Open Building Energy Simulation) is an engineering survey tool for sizing thermal systems and predicting energy use in buildings, aiming to support sustainable and net-zero building design. The underlying concept and mathematical models were originally developed by Jesus Lizana in the Department of Engineering.

The OpenBES project focused on validating these models against international standards for building energy simulation and integrating them into a user-friendly interface for educational and professional use.

As part of this process, Oxford RSE implemented the mathematical models in an open-source Python package, openbes-py, and exposed them to a wider audience through a web-based interface.
